'Send This Message: “Enemy Carriers!”' – by Keith Hill
At 0510 hrs June 4th 1942, a PBY.5 (cal sign ‘AV58’) of VP-23 and under the command of Lt. Howard Ady USN, spotted a Japanese scout aircraft from one of the carriers heading for Midway. At 0530 hrs they located the carrier force. Seconds later Lt. Ady’s radio operator sent this message: “Enemy Carriers!”.
