Early on a cold snowy morning, in the winter of 1944/45, a ‘Pathfinder’ B17 of the 482nd Bomb Group is readied for another daylight mission over occupied Europe from RAF Alconbury. As the 8th Air Force Pathfinder aircraft is readied RAF Pathfinder aircraft return to their base at RAF Wyton after a night mission. The picture is viewed from roughly the same location as today’s entrance to the main gate at RAF Alconbury.
