On the 8th August 1944, a St Agnian in Normandy, Trooper Joe Ekins of the 1st Northamptonshire Yeomanry, took out three SS Tiger tanks with his crew in a Sherman Firefly. It is believed by most military historians that one of these tanks was that of SS Tank ace, Michael Wittman. The print is countersigned by members of the Northamptonshire Yeomanry, including Joe Ekins.

On Jan 23rd 1943 the B-17 ‘Beats Me’ 303rd Bomb Group / 360th Bomb Squadron, RAF Molesworth, was hit and the surviving crew bailed out. Last One Out was S/Sgt Charles L. Roth, a FW-190 approached him during his parachute fall. Fearing he would be fired upon instead he German pilot saluted.

On November 1st 1969 the last revenue-earning train worked the branch line from Wellingborough, via Rushden, to Higham Ferrers to collect the very last load of ‘iron concentrate’. The locomotive was a Class 25, D7502. The two railway men who countersign were among the last to work the branch.
